bio

I grew up in Naselle Washington, a small logging town on the mouth of the Colombia River. My dad built our house with hand tools, ornately carving all the furniture and cupboards. We had no electricity, no phone, and no flushing toilet. My older sister Erica and I often tortured each other in boredom while our mom cooked meals on the woodstove. We read and drew by kerosine lanterns. My aunt Nancy visited often to paint watercolors. We built forts, shot guns, fished for harvest trout and went swimming in the creek nearby. I dropped out during my freshman year in high school, earned my GED and began full time at Clatsop Community College. There I discovered life drawing classes taught by Royal Nebeker that had a profound impact on me. In 2000 I received my BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. I then traveled Spain for six months, hitchhiking and living in squats. It resulted in my first stab at writing, a 300 page unpublished journal titled No Horse, No Wife, No Mustache. Currently I live in Brooklyn and work as a scenic painter on movies, tv and theatre.
